General Election 2010 Betting – Get ready, Get set…Go!!

Sisterbet.com, the female-friendly novelty betting site, has seen the novelty betting market’s popularity soar in the last year, and it seems the UK General Election is to thank for that. One bookie reported back in March that early indications showed more people will be betting on the general election than those that actually intend to vote!

An estimated £25 million will be wagered on the election Thursday 6th May 2010, more than has been bet on all of the elections together since Labour came to power in 1997. The first live broadcast TV debates may be one reason for this sudden betting frenzy. The debates – criticised by some for serving the X-Factor Reality TV appetite made popular in recent years – were a huge catalyst to wager numbers; the general election betting odds shifted significantly after each Live TV Debate. We’ve been reporting the movements of the election odds through Brown’s ‘Bigot’ gaffe, Clegg’s smooth ride through the live TV debates, and Paddy Power’s early pay out on Cameron’s predicted victory.

The latest betting odds show that there could be a late swing in Labour’s favour with election odds shortening from 9/1 last week to 5/1 currently. The competition is still wide open. Latest election odds indicate the Conservative party are favourites to win the most seats tomorrow, with odds of 1/16 through Paddy Power.
